Showa University in Atsugi, Kanagawa Prefecture, has announced that Bill Cahn will be featured in the University’s Artist-in-Residence program. Mr. Cahn’s residency will consist of:

• workshops on subjects related to percussion performance and history
• masterclasses with student performers
• private lessons with percussion students in preparation for the performance of Mr. Cahn’s compositions for solo percussion
• rehearsals with the University Percussion Ensemble in preparation for the performance of Mr. Cahn’s compositions
• Gala Concert featuring student soloists and the University Percussion

Ensemble in performances of Bill Cahn’s compositions. Mr. Cahn will perform as guest soloist with the Percussion Ensemble in his own work, Kebjar-Bali, composed in 1981 and based on the music of the percussion Gamelan orchestras of Indonesia.

Bill Cahn, a resident of Bloomfield, New York, was the Principal Percussionist in the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra from 1968 to 1995, and he has performed as percussion soloist with symphony orchestras and at music festivals throughout the United States and Canada.

He is a founding member of the internationally-acclaimed percussion group, NEXUS, which since 1971 has performed in concerts, music festivals, and on radio and television broadcasts all over the world. As a member of NEXUS, he has performed with the New York Philharmonic, the BBC Symphony, Boston Symphony, City of Birmingham Symphony, Cleveland Orchestra, Hannover NDR Philharmonic, New Japan Philharmonic, Orchestré National de Lyon, and the Toronto Symphony. His performances with NEXUS have been widely recorded on disc, film, and video.

Bill Cahn’s compositions have been performed by the orchestras of Atlanta, Buffalo, Cleveland, Dallas, Des Moines, Detroit, Grand Rapids, Indianapolis, Jacksonville, Memphis, Omaha, Ottawa, Phoenix, Rochester, St. Paul, Tampere (Finland), Toledo, Toronto, Victoria , and Winnipeg. Recordings are available on NEXUS Records.
