If you are in upstate New York around Woodstock and area this weekend, check out Garry Kvistad’s Drum Boogie Festival, a part of the Byrdcliffe Festival of the Arts. Drum Boogie is scheduled for Saturday at 4 PM (a concert of world class percussionists playing world class music) and Sunday at Noon (a very cool kid’s instrument building workshop for ages 5-12). Both are in the Byrdcliffe Barn, Upper Byrdcliffe Road in Woodstock. Go to www.drumboogiefestival.com for ticket information. The Saturday concert is called “Garry and Friends” and will include the drummer from the Saturday Night Live Band, Broadway’s Lion King Percussionist, Native American Drummers and Singers, POOK and members of NEXUS (including a performance of a Steve Reich piece on new instruments that Garry built for this event.) On Sunday, David Laks will conduct a Kid’s Instrument Building Workshop (ages 5-12.) A great weekend event in beautiful Woodstock, NY.
