Holidays are over and everyone is back to work, and that includes NEXUS. The finishing touches are being put in place for the group’s upcoming visits to Eric Ewazen’s Eternal Dance of Life in Barrie (just north of Toronto), and new works at Toronto’s Glenn Gould Theatre, both taking place in March. Travel and transportation, promo, and other logistics are underway. For next season (2011/2012) we are busy talking to presenters in Ontario and in Western Canada – (more news soon!) – and also in the Ohio/PA/WestVirginia area. So, if you want to get on board with that, or you want to anchor a NEXUS visit to another region, drop us a line or give us a call!
All this “work” activity reminded me of Bill Cahn’s workshop: “Getting A Job: Options for Percussionists”, so I thought I would tell you a bit about it. Bill gives some sound advice: Know your resources – and know yourself! Have a Plan of Action. Get – and Stay – Motivated. Be Flexible. Develop skills – and not just in playing! In the workshop, Bill elaborates on these basics, and lively discussions always ensue, the focus evolving from the questions of the workshop participants. He also has a handy Self-Evaluation Questionnaire that you can see by clicking here. If you are a presenter who has students about to launch into the working world of the professional musician, this workshop will be of great interest. And now……back to work!
