Bill Cahn’s Schedule of Events – 2011

Tuesday, January 11 – Bill’s new course, “Creative Music Making,” based on his book (Routledge, 2005) begins as part of the Arts Leadership Program begins at the Eastman School of Music  -.  The course will continue every Tuesday for seven weeks.  Bill also begins his third year as Associate Professor of Percussion at Eastman.

Thursday, January 20 – The Osuma [Percussion] Ensemble (Mikael Heikkilä, Toni Hietala, Jyri Kurri, Harri Lehtinen ja Janne Tuomi) performs Bill Cahn’s, “In Ancient Temple Gardens,”  with The Pori Sinfonietta in Finland.

Monday, January 24 – As a continuing member of the Rochester Philharmonic Honorary Board of Directors, Bill continues to serve on the orchestra’s Education and Outreach Committee, a position he has held since 1970.

Thursday, February 10 – The Eastman Percussion Ensemble performs in Kilbourn Hall at the Eastman School of Music.

Thursday, February 24 – NEXUS rehearses in the afternoon with the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra conducted by Kazuyoshi Akiyama.  At 8:00 PM the Eastman Percussion Ensemble performs in the Eastman Theatre at the Eastman School of Music.

Friday, February 25 – NEXUS performs Takemitsu’s “From me flows what you call Time” with the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra conducted by Kazuyoshi Akiyama at 8 PM at  the Mulroy Civic Center in Syracuse, New York.

Saturday, February 26 – NEXUS performs Takemitsu’s “From me flows what you call Time” with the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra conducted by Kazuyoshi Akiyama at 8 PM at  the Mulroy Civic Center in Syracuse, New York.

Sunday, February 27 – NEXUS performs Takemitsu’s “From me flows what you call Time” with the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra conducted by Kazuyoshi Akiyama at 3 PM at Hamilton College in Clinton, New York.

Saturday, March 5 – NEXUS performs Eric Ewazen’s “The Eternal Dance of Life” with the University of Toronto Wind Ensemble in Barrie, Ontario, Canada.

Saturday, March 12 – NEXUS performs a solo recital with special guest, David Kent, Timpanist of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra at the Glenn Gould Studio in Toronto.

Thursday and Friday, March 30 and 31 – NEXUS rehearses in the evening with the Austin Symphony Orchestra conducted by Peter Bay.

Friday and Saturday, April 1 and 2 – NEXUS performs Takemitsu’s “From me flows what you call Time” with the Austin Symphony Orchestra conducted by Peter Bay at 8 PM in  Dell Hall.

Friday to Sunday, April 8 to 10 – NEXUS in residence at Shenandoah Conservatory of Music in Winchester, Virginia.

Saturday, April 16 – The Sudbury (Ontario, Canada) Symphony Orchestra features marimbist, Ian Gibson, performing Bill Cahn’s “Rosewood Dreaming.”
