Welcome to the NEXUS site and my blog.
All five Nexonians were in Toronto this week preparing the new piece by Eric Ewazen to be premiered in Dallas and Austin next week at PASIC.  The 4-movement work is scored for five percussionists and wind ensemble.  The final version of the solo parts arrived only a day ago, so there was work to be done before we all headed for home.  Full rehearsals with the S.M.U. Wind Ensemble begin in Dallas next week.  The main challenges we faced in rehearsals typically dealt with getting the sounds (i.e. instruments) we want.  Finally, we got there, so the issues became balance and ensemble.  (and showing up on time – which is 90% of a musician’s job – wait, no . . . 95%!)
