Monday, January 2 - Bill begins his first term as the Chair of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra’s Honorary Board of Directors. Responsibilities will include serving on the Governance, Education, and Strategic Plan Implementation committees.
Tuesday, January 17 - Bill’s course, “Creative Music Making,” based on his book (Routledge, 2005) begins as part of the Arts Leadership Program begins at the Eastman School of Music -. The course will continue every Tuesday for seven weeks. Bill also begins his 4th year as Associate Professor of Percussion at Eastman.
February 9 - Bill presents the film, “World Drums” featuring the late John Wyre, to the entire Eastman School Percussion Department. The 1-hour film about John as Director of the World Drum Festival at the Vancouver Expo ‘86 was produced by the National Film Board of Canada.
February 21 to 26 - Bill and Ruth travel to Lulea, Sweden for a week long residency at the University of Technology. Latest reports were that the weather was sunny and cold (minus 20 degrees; I guess February in Rochester this year was just too WARM!) They’ll be presenting workshops and a performance of “A PAGE OF MADNESS,” the silent film (1926) by Tienosuke Kinugasa, with musical accompaniment composed by Bill. Joining Bill and Ruth in the performance will be the Evolution Percussion Duo - Maria Finkelmeier and Jake Remington.
March 2 - NEXUS performs at California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks near Los Angeles.
March 13 & 14 - NEXUS presents workshops and performs at the Episcopal Collegiate School in Little Rock, Arkansas.
March 23 - NEXUS performs at LaGrange College in LaGrange, Georgia. Featured on the program is Bill’s composition, “The Crystal Cabinet,” inspired by the poem of William Blake.
March 27 - NEXUS performs at Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio.
May 3 to 5 - Bill co-produces the Percussion Rochester Festival at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. The weekend events will culminate with the NEXUS performance of “Rituals” by Ellen Taaffe Zwilich with the Eastman Philharmonia, conducted by Neil Varon. Also on that program will be the world premiere of Michael Burritt’s piece for percussion and wind ensemble, with the composer as soloist. The Eastman Wind Ensemble will be conducted by Mark Davis Scatterday.
